Chapter 2760 - 2761: The Inauspicious One
Chapter 2760 - 2761: The Inauspicious One
"Activate the boat’s defensive array. This sea monster seems to rely mainly on its large size and strength to attack; not too hard to handle," Jiang Yichun said.
Soon, the defensive array was activated, and the boat didn’t sway as much anymore, allowing everyone on board to breathe a sigh of relief.
The ship workers were actually not too panicked. If this were the past, they would undoubtedly have been trembling in fear, perhaps even kneeling and praying for the heavens’ protection. But ever since they followed Master Jiang and Master Bai, the ship became sturdier and they felt safer. The key thing was that Master Jiang and Master Bai wouldn’t send them to their deaths. What did they have to fear then?
Jiang Yichun and Mo Beishan led the attack against the sea monster, but unexpectedly, its skin was extremely tough, and their swords couldn’t harm it in the slightest, leaving the situation at a standstill.
The Birdmen flew high above, looking helpless.
They were best at grabbing people or prey to frighten them or throwing them down to break them, but this was a giant sea monster—they couldn’t lift it...
"Can Ruozhu use poison?" Mo Beishan asked.
Jiang Yichun rolled his eyes at him, "Do you have that much poison?"
"Uh, it is a bit too big," Mo Beishan scratched his head. "I don’t feel like hacking anymore; it’s too tiring, and we can’t cut it."
In the ship cabin, Bai Ruozhu was dressed, muttering: why is it taking so long, did something powerful come? But nobody was shouting on the deck.
She exited the room and hadn’t started down the stairs when she heard a sobbing sound. It wasn’t a woman’s cry; it sounded like a grown man crying, full of fear and grievance.
Is someone injured? Why cry like that?
She walked over slowly, suddenly remembering: isn’t this the room arranged for Ling Bo?
She knocked on the door, and someone inside exclaimed, apparently frightened by the knocking.
"It’s me, Bai Ruozhu. Let me check your injuries," she tried to keep her voice gentle.
The person inside didn’t speak, but the crying reduced somewhat.
She pushed the door open to find Ling Bo crouched in the corner, hands in his hair, like a frightened deer, his face covered in tears.
He was not young, so there wasn’t any cuteness; instead, it really seemed strange.
"Where is Bei Gui?" Bai Ruozhu asked.
"He... he went up to help," Ling Bo’s voice was very soft, like a cat’s meow.
Bai Ruozhu found a chair to sit down and said, "Why don’t you get up to talk; isn’t squatting uncomfortable?"
Ling Bo suddenly cried out, "No, I can’t get close to you. I’ll bring you misfortune. I’m an unlucky person; it must be me that attracted the sea monster."
"Ah?" Bai Ruozhu was a bit surprised, "You’re overthinking. Before, others didn’t know your true identity and said you were a demon. That won’t happen in the future."
"No, that’s not it!" Ling Bo shouted excitedly. "I’m particularly unlucky. Wherever I go, trouble follows. Bei Gui and the others have been dragged down by me all along. You see, I can fly, yet I still get shot down."
Bai Ruozhu’s head was filled with questions, but thinking back, it seemed true; he could fly, not being stupid enough not to dodge the Prince of Fusang’s arrow.
"Where I lived, wolves often showed up, and villagers said I was a demon that lured the wolves to harm them, driving me to the mountains. Then I built a wooden house in the mountain, and soon it got struck by lightning. I excavated a cave, and shortly after, the mountain collapsed, sealing the entrance. Later, I lived in a tree, often getting bitten by snakes."
Ling Bo cried again, with deep depression; it didn’t seem fake or for sympathy—he truly felt helpless and aggrieved.
"You might be the legendary unlucky person; but tough times will pass. Don’t overthink," Bai Ruozhu consoled.
"I don’t want to return to the Golden Wings Clan. I’m so unlucky; returning would only bring trouble to them. I can’t go back," Ling Bo mumbled repetitively about not going back.
Bai Ruozhu didn’t know how to console him for a moment, thinking he might be too depressed, magnifying the negative feelings.
Just then, footsteps sounded outside, and Bei Gui walked in; seeing her, he was a bit surprised. "Lady Bai, why are you here?"
"I came to check his injuries, worried they might impact him," Bai Ruozhu didn’t mention the crying drawing her.
Seeing Ling Bo crouched crying, Bei Gui sighed helplessly, "Ling Bo, nothing’s wrong above. The sea monster is large, but lacks much attack power. Once it realizes it can’t hurt us, it’ll leave."
Ling Bo didn’t speak, keeping his head down and crying incessantly.
Bei Gui sighed, saying to Bai Ruozhu, "Lady Bai, I’m heading up to help; are you going up?"
Bai Ruozhu, troubled by Ling Bo’s crying, quickly nodded, "I’ll go up to take a look as well."
The two left the room, with Bai Ruozhu whispering: "Why does Ling Bo keep saying he’s unlucky? Did he suffer something before?"
Bei Gui’s expression darkened, "He isn’t wrong; he truly is unlucky."
"Ah?"
Bei Gui began to explain, "When we first met him, lightning struck suddenly, hitting the tree he was sleeping on, nearly burning him to a crisp. After explaining and taking him away, we encountered bloodsucking bats on the first day for no reason, and several of us got injured."
"Later, seeking an island to rest, it erupted into a volcano..."
"Afterwards, upon finding a creek, hoping to replenish fresh water, cannibal fish unexpectedly showed up, though we went unharmed; only he got bitten."
"Following that, flying homeward, we encountered a hurricane; he almost got swept away. And then he got shot down from the sky by your people. Never have we faced so much misfortune; taking him along brought numerous mishaps, and he kept repeating he’s unlucky."
Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, "He truly has an unlucky nature; he just said he won’t return to the Golden Wings Clan, fearing he might trouble you."
Bei Gui sighed, "He’s kind-hearted, worried about harming us. We can’t bear to abandon him."
Conversing, they reached the deck, and Bai Ruozhu glanced at the sea, noticing it was indeed a great creature.
Suddenly, the sea monster swam away, and people on the boat cheered, shouting, "The sea monster is gone, the sea monster is gone!"
Bai Ruozhu had a sudden change in expression toward the sea, "Not good, it’s moving to attack the Fusang official ship!"
Jiang Yichun gritted his teeth, "This thing has gained intelligence, knowing our ship has a defensive array, and switched targets."
"Let’s go help the Fusang official ship, or otherwise many might perish," Bai Ruozhu said.
Jiang Yichun embraced her and leaped into the water. As they submerged, his legs transformed into a fish tail, propelling them swiftly fifteen meters, heading toward the sea monster.
Fo Lanying called from the boat, "I want to help too, why aren’t you taking me!"
Yuan Licheng tugged at her, "Don’t be reckless; your swimming isn’t good, a single wave could knock you out."
