Chapter 8 If you don't take your clothes off, what am I supposed to see?
Andrea and Terra walked through the forest. The dirt road was warm from the sun, and sunlight filtered through the tree canopy onto the grass.
To avoid unnecessary disputes, the slime girl did not accompany them but continued to guard the house.
Walking along this path, Andrea felt as if all the noise had been left behind, leaving only a sense of peace. What a joke!
"The new version of the guide is really useful. Last night, it killed that goblin with just a few arrows. But the guide's AI is still not smart enough. It keeps opening doors for monsters."
"But seeing the animation of the new version's director changing clothes makes it all worthwhile."
Seven or eight days had passed since they set off, and Andrea had been listening to Terra's strange tales the whole way. After hearing so much, she had become able to filter out some of the information.
"I already apologized for opening the door. The shelter you built doesn't have windows. I thought it was an adventurer knocking to ask for the night. Who knew it was a goblin?"
"Don't be so polite, you mere goblin! 'Hello, I'd like to stay the night... Ah! So you're a beautiful elf lady. May I buy you for one night for 1 silver coin?' Hmph~" Andrea 1 mimicked the goblin's words in a sarcastic tone.
"Also, could you please not stare at me while I'm washing up? Ouch~" Andrea recalled the scene and slapped Terra on the head, only to find it hurt.
Terra looked on with a question mark: "Isn't the point of designing NPC striptease animations to be watched?"
"I'm serious, don't do that kind of thing again." Andrea sighed, rubbing her forehead. "I don't want to be dragged into this later. It's bad enough that those humans call me a pervert, but what if a bunch of men come over and say, 'Look at mine...'"
The things that happened in the past two days with Terra have been more than what Andrea 1 has experienced in the past few decades. Especially at night.
Every night, I stayed in a house built in Terra, with an inextinguishable campfire inside.
These past few days, Andrea1 has felt like she's not on an adventure, but on a trip.
"Ouch! That hurts!" Lost in thought, Andrea 1 wasn't looking where she was going and bumped her head into a tree.
She rubbed her forehead and saw a notice posted on the tree.
Andrea looked around and noticed that many trees were covered with posters: "Is it another one of those goblin posters that are meant to draw women's attention? Looks like we're getting closer to town."
"So, it's through these changes in scene elements that people have psychological expectations about the area they're about to face?" Cloud bubbles appeared above Terra's head.
"Looking at the map, it might take half a day to get here. Let's eat first." Andrea 1 sat down against a tree.
She took a loaf of bread out of the package, thought for a moment, tore it in half, and handed it to Terra.
As Andrea 1 had predicted, an exclamation mark appeared above Terra's head: "Oh~ the new version of the guide can vomit!" Then the bread in her hand was sucked into Terra's body.
Terra looked up and stared into the air: "[Guide's Half-Breast Padded Bread] *1, looks like it can provide a 5-minute mini-satiety buff?"
"I haven't done anything like that lately, it's just regular bread!" Andrea 1 clutched her chest.
She took a few walnuts out of her bag, cracked them with bread, and picked out the kernels to use as a side dish.
Terra looked puzzled. "We're almost at town, Director, do you want to rest?"
"How did you know? Ouch!" Andrea 1 rubbed the back of her head, which had just hit the tree trunk while biting into bread. She had already hit her head twice in just a short while.
"I heard the background music for the forest environment change to the background music for the town environment. Look, rabbits are starting to spawn here." Terra pointed to the little guy who was slowly hopping over to scavenge for walnuts.
How much further?
"Let me adjust the scale... well, it's over 60 divisions."
Andrea wondered what a "grid" was. She tiptoed and leaped onto the treetop, looking in the direction Terra pointed. In the distance, she could indeed glimpse the outline of the brick battlements.
However, something was strange. She had heard her mother say that human settlements were usually quite lively, so why were there no pedestrians at the city gate?
*
As Andrea and Terra approached the city gate, they saw an iron cage next to the gate, inside which was a goblin.
As she wondered if she had seen it before, soldiers on both sides of the city gate ran up with swords and shields and stopped the two of them.
The soldiers' gazes first fell on the strange-looking Terra, and then they noticed a dignified and aloof woman next to her.
"Are you an elf?" the soldier asked in surprise.
So this is what human speech is like!
"Yes, you may both call me Andrea1." Andrea1 bowed slightly in the manners typical of elves.
The two soldiers were seeing a real elf outside of a notebook for the first time, and they were so captivated by her fragrance that they were momentarily mesmerized.
A moment later, a soldier replied, "Yes, Miss Elf, my name is Ash. You saw the notice when you came; the goblins in the forest have been quite restless lately. The one in the cage is the one we caught recently."
"Therefore, for safety reasons, entry and exit are not permitted without a pass. However, since you are an elf, we can issue you a pass on the spot. But... this gentleman?"
Terra glanced at the soldiers' heads, then circled around two of them: "Oh! Ash, Kalan, so many NPCs added in the new version? They're actually quite cute as girls! Do you guys have striptease animations too?"
"Ahem, this is a reclusive mage named Terra. She is highly skilled in her profession, but her mind is a bit..." Andrea tapped her temple.
"I understand, Miss. Please go to the city gate with this man to get your pass. I need to check this gentleman's credentials." Ash nudged his teammate.
The soldier turned and led Andrea through the city gate first, then gave Ashby a thumbs up.
Ash: "Ahem, sir mage, may I inspect your belongings?"
"This guy's dialogue box doesn't have a place to put items? Does he just throw everything out of his inventory?"
Then he saw the other person's body start spitting out all sorts of cubes, which completely engulfed him.
"Are these blocks made of dirt, stones, and sand?"
"Yes, this is a wonderful tool for checking what items have fallen."
Ash was certain that the mage was not quite right in the head: "Alright, put these things away. I've taken up your time. You've proven your reliability. Please come with me into the city."
*
Watching the elves and mages walk further and further away, Ash1 patted his teammate on the shoulder: "Hey, how's it going with the elves?"
Karan: "Why did you take so long to get back? I didn't know elves' feet smelled so bad. I told her to watch out for goblins, and she just smiled at me, hehe. I'll treat you to dinner tonight!"
Ash1: "Disappointed? They're real elves, they won't be kidnapped by goblins."
"As for dinner, forget it. Your sister-in-law went to take on a mission to clear out the goblins in Wangyue Forest. She'll be back today."
Karan: "I didn't say I was disappointed! But you're really unlucky, brother, marrying an adventurer who's so strict."
*
"See, Terra, it feels good to team up with an elf, doesn't it?" Andrea nudged Terra with her elbow, raising an eyebrow smugly. "Without me, you wouldn't even be able to get into the city."
"So there's such a mechanism. You're truly a great leader. It was my oversight."
"I originally planned to use the script to break through the stone city wall or even dig a tunnel. But since the guide has said so, it seems that going into the city without teaming up with the guide might have other serious consequences."
"Uh, probably not~" Andrea's smugness vanished instantly, and her ears drooped.
