Chapter 3 The Morgue

Chapter 3 The Morgue

The monster let out a roar and immediately charged towards Su Jue's location.

"Bang"

The monster's claws fell, but instead of a sound, it made a clanging sound of weapons colliding.

A sword, still sheathed, stood between the monster and Su Jue. In an instant, all the faces on the monster began to wail, and at the same time, every pair of eyes on it looked towards its master, following the sword.

He was a middle-aged man who looked somewhat nonchalant. His high ponytail and stubble added to his rugged,江湖-like air.

"Hmm? Liu Xue was here just now." The man glanced at the scattered mirror shards on the ground, assuming they were Liu Xue's magic: "By the way... what are you?"

The middle-aged man exerted force with his wrist, forcefully knocking the monster away. After flying a meter, the monster grabbed the ground with its claws and stopped its flying body.

But when it looked again, the man who had knocked it away was gone.

Ignoring it, it charged at Su Jue again, but this time it didn't even have a chance to get close. The middle-aged man jumped down from a nearby tree, holding a shard of mirror the size of a dagger in his hand, and slashed at the monster.

His body propelled the fragments in a graceful arc as they fell, before they landed gently.

"Thump"

The monster's head was easily severed by the man as if cutting paper; it didn't even have a chance to scream before everything fell silent.

"The first month of the lunar calendar is here, it's the new year!"

A cheerful telephone ring suddenly broke the silence that belonged only to the night.

"Hmm?" Looking at the words "Old Liu" displayed on his phone, the man put the phone back in his pocket and took out a cigarette from his shirt pocket.

A flame lit up the cigarette he was holding in his mouth. The smoke slowly rose, and the man took a deep drag before exhaling the smoke, which then merged with the smoke in front of him and disappeared into the air.

Only then did he reach into his pocket, and the phone stopped ringing abruptly: "Feed?"

"Is it all sorted out, Lao Pei?" A very serious male voice came from the other end of the phone, "Lao Liu".

"Hmm, there was indeed a strange bastard. I took care of him, but Liu Xue wasn't there. She must have escaped," the man called "Old Pei" replied.

"What about that one, Su Jue?" the other end asked again.

"Su Jue... is he a man? He has medium-length black hair. Damn, this kid looks a bit like a woman." Old Pei hung up the phone, then picked up Su Jue and carried him on his shoulder.

Just as Lao Pei was about to leave, a clear sound of footsteps quickly approached from afar.

"You are... Pei Min from the morgue?" Xu Menghe glanced at the monster beside her, which had already turned into pieces, and breathed a sigh of relief.

She then carefully checked the information on her phone, confirming that the other party was Pei Min, a high-ranking official in the morgue, before speaking again: "If I said we wanted him, would you give him to us?"

"Little girl, you know who I am, yet you still ask such a question?" Pei Min waved his hand and left with Su Jue in his arms.

Long after Pei Min left, Xu Menghe finally sat down on the ground, a smile beginning to appear on her lips: "Done. But does this count as the mission complete?"

Xu Yafang's hand kept sliding in mid-air, but it didn't look like she was drawing hieroglyphs; it looked more like she was... examining something?

The next morning at six o'clock, Liu Xue tidied her clothes and set off.

She complained inwardly that she had such bad luck yesterday. She was recruiting a new person when she encountered such a monster, and she even bumped her head when Su Jue rescued her.

She went to the cemetery as soon as she woke up this morning, but everyone was gone. When she checked her phone, she found that Lin Yang had called her 39 times.

She called back and learned that Su Jue was not dead, which eased her guilt somewhat.

"Okay, don't worry, I'll go back now." After saying that, she hung up the phone with Lin Yang.

Soon after, she arrived at the Municipal People's Hospital and, with practiced ease, stopped in front of morgue number five.

Before opening the door, Liu Xue drew several hieroglyphs on it, which were different from her own and were silver.

"Xue'er!" As soon as the door opened, a handsome man rushed towards her.

"3..." Liu Xue glanced helplessly at Lin Yang.

"Stop messing around, stop messing around!" Lin Yang grinned foolishly. "He said he agreed to join, that Su Jue."

Following Lin Yang's gaze, Liu Xue saw Su Jue in the crowd, but strangely, there was another unfamiliar person next to Su Jue.

"That's..." Liu Xue patted Lin Yang.

"Oh! His name is Fang Qi. I rescued him yesterday. I originally planned to bring him back, fill his brain with some source energy so he would forget about this and then let him go. But I found out he's also a sorcerer." Lin Yang took out a folding fan, skillfully opened it, and started fanning himself.

"What about that kid? What's his skill level?" Lin Yang leaned close to Liu Xue's ear, using his fan to cover their faces.

"Qiang, you might not be able to win." Liu Xue recalled the situation last night: "His techniques are very strange, incomprehensible to people, as if his forms do not restrict him from doing anything at all."

"That's really strange?" Lin Yang raised an eyebrow. "We'll talk about it later, the boss is here."

The door suddenly opened, and Pei Min walked in from outside: "All done."

The room fell silent as everyone waited for Pei Min to speak.

"Um... no missions today, take a day off. Also, Su Jue and Fang Qi, come here for a moment." Pei Min called to the two and walked towards another room.

The door slowly opened, and Su Jue and Fang Qi entered one after the other.

"Wow, bro, their leader is terrifying!" Fang Qi hid behind Su Jue, grabbing his shoulders and trembling.

"well enough."

After waking up, Su Jue had a brief conversation with the man in front of him and felt that the man was actually quite humane.

"So? Have you decided whether you want to join us?"

Pei Min put his feet on the desk.

"My request remains the same; can you meet it?"

Su Jue leaned against the wall and asked.

"The Warlock's Three Words? There's really nothing we can do about that. Every organization has a different opinion on this. You can ask for something else, like helping you find clues about your parents' deaths."

Pei Min was shocked when he heard it yesterday; it was unbelievable that someone could be completely immune to the consequences of reciting the sorcerer's three words.

"Besides my parents' matter, I also want all the information you and all other organizations have about the Warlock's Three Words."

After thinking for a moment, Su Jue looked at Pei Min.

"If I agree, you'll join us?" Pei Min asked, and seeing the other person nod, he continued, "No problem, I can give you the morgue information later, but I need to collect the information from other organizations."

"Um."

Su Jue nodded again. He planned to join the morgue first and see how it went. After all, this organization seemed to be in a good position, much safer than the puppets.

Moreover, following an organization is always faster than messing around on your own.

"And you?"

Pei Min looked again at the other boy who had been hiding behind Su Jue. He remembered his name as... Fang Qi?

"Huh? Me too, I'll join too."

Fang Qi mumbled that he was indeed homeless now, and that whatever this mysterious organization was, it was better than him sleeping on the streets alone.

"Alright, you can go now. I have tasks to assign you. Welcome to the morgue."

Pei Min gave a hearty smile.

Please give me your guidance.

After Su Jue finished speaking, she walked to the hall and found a place to sit.

We still have no clue about that mysterious person; we can only guess little by little based on the sorcerer's three words.

The meaning of those three sentences was too vague. If the ultimate goal was simply to be related to a god whose existence is unknown, then it would be fine.

But what if the ultimate goal is to reach the gods?

Is it really going to be like what the warlock said...?

Kill the gods?
